My Current Notebook Setup

There is nothing special about how I set up my notebook. Nothing and everything. It is unique and special to me. Artifacts that have personal meaning or bring back special memories fill the leather cover, which I chose and adorned with intention. Every single bit of it, from cover to cover. It changes organically, as I journey through this life. I take this out. I add things.

This is my notebook setup today. Tomorrow it may be entirely different. Let your notebook be about you

My notebook is made by Traveler's Company, a division of Midori, a Japanese stationery company. This edition was purchased at the Ace Hotel in New York in 2016 and replaced another notebook of the same brand. It marked a pivotal time in my life. I chose black, a switch for me because of its formality and elegance. It is adorned with several charms. Garnets have adorned talisman since ancient times and symbolize the utilization of creative energy. This amulet was a gift to me during a different time in my life and it was given with good intentions, so I keep it as a reminder of how relationships change and how important intentions are, so as not to succumb to bitterness. The charms that hang from the bookmark are a reminder of my children, those that were born to me and the one I lost. They are handmade stitch markers from a pregnancy loss support group I started on Revelry, many years ago. Everything has meaning.

My notebook doesn't have much in it. I don't like clutter, so I would probably have no problem quickly turning to my notes nor my folder, but I love the index tabs made of warm brass. I find them aesthetically pleasing and would use all six, if I could find a practical reason to do so.

I adhered plastic pockets to the front and back cover to hold the things I need. My notebook is a workhorse. The sticker reminds me of the day I purchased this particular notebook cover at the Ace Hotel in NY. It was a pivotal day for me. The quote was given to me by my oldest son. He gives them to me, usually 10 at a time, as gifts. I rotate them. I love his thoughtfulness. My name is important to me. It has been spoken with a negative ton a lot, and I've had to retrain my ear to hear it lovingly. This vinyl sticker of my name was given to me by a friend, the owner of a stationery story that hosted one of my workshops. Photos of my sons are everywhere in my notebook. They are the loves of my life and my anchors.

I intermingle useful things with memories. The olive green canvas insert was purchased at a Traveler's Company Caravan (pop-up event) and it holds my money, coupons, and necessary cards.

It's a necessity, but I love the color and feel of it, down to the zipper. It has replaced other similar inserts.

I use one notebook insert at a time. It is Midori brand and grid ruled. It is covered with quotes printed on sticker paper and gifted to me by my oldest son. They are sometimes left blank. It depends on where I am on my journey. I archive them in storage binders and each one is different.

Transluscent sticky notes by Stalogy are favorites of mine. I write "lessons" on them and overlay my personal writing with them. It's conceptually meaningful to me and very much a part of my process. My new blue Aurora Optima fountain pen is now the only pen I carry. I have gone from have two pen loops to one and I use this pen constantly. It makes my heart sing. The pen loop is from Leuchtturm1917.

My zippered pouch serves to hold stamps an a few other items I need or want to have on hand, plus a reminder. Tucked inside a sticker pocket is my fitness log in a pocket size notebook by Baron Fig.
