"I think we are well advised to keep on nodding terms with the people we used to be, whether we find them attractive company of not. Otherwise they turn up unannounced and surprise us, come hammering on the mind's door at 4 a.m. of a bad night and demand to know who deserted them, who betrayed them, who is going to make amends." Joan Didion, "On Keeping a Notebook," Slouching Towards Bethlehem

Keep a notebook. Change your life.

Version 2.jpg

Welcome to On Keeping a Notebook, where I hope you will find the inspiration and resources needed to recharge, design, and expand your life through personal writing.

I am so very grateful that the Universe has led you to my page, so that we might connect, and that I might accompany you on some part of your personal writing journey. Writing has saved me, expanded me, and lifted me more times than I can count. It has inspired me and tempered me, so that I could become a kinder, gentler, more purposeful me. Early on, I realized that whatever I did within my set of circumstances was up to me. I realized I could not control a lot of what happened in my life, but I could control my responses to what happened. And, I refused to become bitter in the face of adversity. That was a big thing for me.. I insisted on keeping an open and warm heart, and that meant processing my hardships in a way that allowed me to learn lessons from them and to grow from them, and not only to feel pain and resentment from which no good could come. I refer to this kind of writing as "Warrior Writing" and it is empowering.

It is my hope to continue to inspire you to write and grow.  Again, welcome to On Keeping a Notebook.
